Hello Salt Lake County Democrats,

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes a season of renewal, engagement, and action! As we gear up for our most significant events of the year—including Politisauce and Convention—it’s time to rally together and strengthen our Democratic movement across the county.

In this edition, you’ll find key updates on upcoming caucuses, conventions, volunteer opportunities, and spotlights on incredible Democrats making a difference. Let’s keep the momentum going—together, we’ll build a stronger, more connected Salt Lake County Democratic Party.

Politisauce 2025 – Our Biggest Fundraiser of the Year!

Saturday, April 12 | 12:30 PM |   Interform Club, AFCU Stadium

We are thrilled to welcome Congresswoman Sarah McBride as our keynote speaker! A trailblazing member of Congress, McBride has spoken brilliantly about the need for affordable housing, environmental protections, and policies that strengthen families, including expanding healthcare access and paid family and medical leave. Her leadership proves that bold, progressive change is possible when we work together.

There are a few tickets and tables remaining! Don’t miss your chance to hear from Congresswoman McBride and support Salt Lake County Democrats in this critical election year.

Upcoming Party Elections: Get Involved in Leadership

The strength of our party starts with strong leadership, and this year, we have an exciting opportunity to elect the dedicated Democrats who will guide us through the next chapter.

We’ll be electing House District Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Secretaries for all 27 House Districts within Salt Lake County. These roles are essential in organizing our grassroots efforts, supporting candidates, and mobilizing Democrats at the local level. Filing for candidacy closed Thursday, April 3 at 5pm and we look forward to seeing them at convention.

Community Spotlight: SLC Mutual Aid

At the heart of progressive values is the belief that we care for each other. That’s exactly what SLC Mutual Aid is all about. This grassroots, volunteer-led organization is dedicated to solidarity, not charity, and directly supporting those in need across Salt Lake County.

Through community-driven initiatives like free food distribution, clothing swaps, and rent relief support, SLC Mutual Aid ensures that resources are shared equitably. They believe in mutual aid as an act of collective care—where neighbors support neighbors without bureaucracy or barriers.

Want to help? You can donate, volunteer, or spread the word. Learn more about their mission and how you can support their work at slcmutualaid.com.

Together, we build stronger communities when we uplift and support one another!

The Power of Local Leadership: Your Community Needs You

Local government shapes our daily lives in countless ways—whether it’s city councils making zoning decisions, school boards shaping education policy, or neighborhood groups advocating for change. These roles directly impact housing, public safety, and community development, making them one of the most effective ways to create real, lasting change.

Salt Lake County will have 90 local races on the ballot this year, opening the door for passionate community members to step up and lead. If you’ve ever thought about running for office or serving on a board or commission, now is the time to take action!

Join us for an upcoming candidate training to learn what it takes to run, serve, and make a difference. Not sure where to begin? Fill out this form to get more information about running for office—we’ll help you find the right opportunity to lead in your community!

Your voice matters. Your leadership can make a difference. Take the first step today!

New Filing Fee Reimbursement Program for Union Members Running for Office

The Salt Lake County Democratic Party is proud to launch a new program to support union members who want to run for office. Union members can now apply for filing fee reimbursement this year and next, reducing the financial burden of running for office.

If you're a union member interested in running or know someone who is, please email slcounty@slcountydems.com to apply. Additionally, we’re offering training and resources for first-time union candidates and plan to host a group training session before the June municipal filing deadline. Let’s work together to ensure more union voices are heard in our government!

Closing Note: Building Together for a Stronger Party

As we head into the next phase of this election cycle, I’m thrilled to see so many passionate Democrats stepping up to run for party leadership positions. It’s a testament to the energy and commitment within our community.

But let’s remember—this isn’t about picking teams. It’s about strengthening the Salt Lake County Democratic Party so we can take on the real challenges ahead: electing Democrats, protecting our values, and solving the issues that impact Utah families.

Leadership transitions can be tough, but they don’t have to be divisive. We can debate ideas, challenge each other, and still work together without tearing each other down. The goal is the same: a stronger, more effective party that wins elections and delivers results.

Let’s keep our focus on solutions, collaboration, and the bigger picture. Together, we can build a party that works for everyone.

Onward!

Chair Velazquez
