If you still haven't voted, be sure to vote the entire ballot.
In Presidential election years, most of these races, when a Democrat runs against a Republican, land 2% on either side of 50%. This means that these races are so close that they are all winnable for us.
We also see ballot roll-off in Presidential years. More voters vote for the President at the top of their ballot than for the next race, more for Governor than the next race, and so on. The total number of votes cast for any candidate in the County Mayor race tends to be 4-5% less than for any candidate for President. By the time voters get to Assessor, Recorder, Surveyor, and Treasurer, 7.5-8.5% fewer votes are cast than for President.
Why? For many people, the names and even the offices are unfamiliar, and they aren’t sure who to vote for.
If voters are familiar with the candidates, we can move 10, 20, or even 30 thousand votes in these races, we've got them.
You can help us persuade those who might not have voted for our candidates otherwise through canvassing, phone banking, and other direct voter contact. Most of us are familiar with that work.
This year we’re also working on another front. We’re providing short videos of our countywide candidates that can be shared on social media, in chat, by text—anywhere people share videos. Our goal is to get 2-3% or maybe 5% more people (that's ~25,000 voters) to vote their whole ballot.
I want voters to ask, what was the name of that woman who knocked on my door and talked about making government finances more accessible, or the guy who wants to make taxes make sense, or the guy who reminds me of Tim Walz? What was that name? I want to be sure that I find them on my ballot.
So, here is what you can do. Share our candidate videos in public posts. Send individual videos to group chats. Text them to family members. Wherever you communicate with the people in your circles, bring these videos with you.
Let's make our countywide candidates familiar to voters.
